At our house this year we've received several "UnChristmas" cards. What is an "UnChristmas card"? Those we've received generally show a nice starlit snow scene or something equally generic and bear a politically correct message like "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays". What season and what holiday are we talking about? By eliminating any religious symbols or message these cards effectively take Christ out of Christmas.
We see the same secularization of Christmas in television commercials and in the greetings made by those dealing with the public. In a typical department store, the clerk completes your transaction, bags your purchase and hands it to you with a fake smile and a generic holiday greeting, with no mention of Christmas.
News reports talk of the "holiday shopping season" and "Black Friday", but again, no mention of Christmas.
Now I fully understand that not everyone is a Christian. There are Jews and Muslims and Budists and even some that profess to be athiests and have no religious belief. But why in America must we cater to the whining minorities and not mention the holiday celebrated by the vast majority of Americans, even some of other faiths? Especially since none of these minorities have any quams about profiting from Christmas.
The same retail stores that won't allow their employees to say "Merry Christmas" are packed with Christmas merchandise from gifts to wrappings to trees, lights and decorations that are all very much focused on Christmas.
What can we do personally to keep Christ in Christmas?
Buy and send Christmas cards that specifically mention the birth of Christ and that include scripture verses and Christian images.
Make sure you use Christian greetings such as "Have a blessed Christmas".
Play and listen to Christian Christmas music.
Attend church Christmas programs and invite others to go with you.
Share the true Christmas Story with others.
Focus on giving to others, not just family and friends, but to others who are less fortunate.
Donate gifts, clothing, food, cash and time to help others at Christmas and do it in the name of Christ.
Let's keep Christ in Christmas!
